What is a Child Development Center?

Child Development Centers in Wyoming are dedicated to helping your children and your family thrive by offering free developmental screenings and developmental services for children ages birth through five as well as preschool or child care.

• Screenings include hearing and vision, thinking and reasoning skills, communication skills, and physical movement skills.
• Developmental services include diagnostic evaluation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, mental health services, audiology, family service coordination and many more.

Across the state, there are 14 Child Development Centers that have the ability to provide these free screenings and services, made possible by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Wyoming’s Early Intervention and Education Program (EIEP).

• IDEA is a federal law that makes free public education available; it’s tailored to the individual needs of all eligible children with disabilities. Part B of IDEA governs how special education and related services are provided to school-aged children with disabilities. Part C of IDEA focuses on early intervention services for babies and toddlers.
• Wyoming’s CDCs provide free developmental screenings and developmental services. Screenings are available and encouraged for all children.

Together, IDEA and Wyoming’s EIEP make it possible for families in Wyoming to make sure their children are meeting their developmental milestones, and to receive assistance if they need it. At Child Development Centers, children can receive screenings and developmental services, and experience the benefits of child care in a center setting.
